A new test for logistics in the Indo-Pacific

ww5 brings planning systems and commercial logistics expertise to a regional sustainment exercise.

ww5’s material-handling equipment helps keep parts flowing through the facility efficiently.

ww5 Global Services was awarded the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command Contested Logistics and Distribution Demonstration contract to evaluate a trial effort focused on improving supply chain agility in a contested environment.

Why it matters: Better visibility into available parts, supplies and tools — and the ability to anticipate obstacles — can help keep defense platforms and systems ready when customers need them.

  • In challenging environments, the logistics infrastructure supporting those systems must also be ready and resilient.
  • The project will examine how commercial logistics infrastructure can be integrated with government-furnished materiel-processing to support operational needs across the Indo-Pacific region.
  • The demonstration includes updating enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, enabling automated cataloging and tracking, and supporting the receipt, storage and onward movement of materiel through a commercial distribution network.

Advancing contested logistics capability

The demonstration is designed to assess how commercial logistics providers can help reduce reliance on strategic airlift while improving visibility, responsiveness and resilience in challenging operational conditions. ww5’s approach will leverage its commercial logistics network and ERP-based processes to support a controlled distribution flow.

ww5 warehouses support parts handling and global shipping.

The technical approach is organized into three phases:

  • ERP data integration and catalog development — ww5 will validate government data, create item master records and support automated ingestion into its ERP environment for the required parts.
  • Physical distribution demonstration — The team will receive, inspect, store and dispatch a test shipment while maintaining chain of custody and in-transit visibility throughout the process.
  • Operational assessment — ww5 will provide an after-action review and operational analysis to help identify bottlenecks, compliance considerations and future scaling opportunities.
A key priority of the demonstration is showing that logistics can continue effectively under degraded conditions.

Resilience and visibility

The effort also emphasizes compliance, quality assurance and host-nation requirements, reflecting the complexity of executing logistics support in the Indo-Pacific region.

The trial will help inform future contested logistics methods and provide insight into how commercial networks can securely support mission readiness in complex environments.

ww5 Global Services helps customers operate, maintain and modernize their fleets and mission systems. The organization brings together ww5’s commercial and defense expertise to deliver scalable, mission-ready solutions worldwide.
